FTM puzzlement
Can anyone with Family Tree Maker 2011 help me with this query please?
I have 3 Seth Fishers, grandfather, father & son b. ? (obviously late 1770s) who married Elizabeth Soale b. 1813 in Petersfield, Hants. who married Mary Anne Cook b. 1838 in Petersfield, Hants. haven't found marriage yet The father (1813) has "unknown spouse & unknown spouse" above it in one box, and if I try to attach the grandfather, who is listed elsewhere, but shows Seth the father, it says "These people cannot be attached because one of them is already a direct relation of the other" I doesn't make sense to me. How can I get the father to accept the attachment of the grandfather? |

Can you delete the unknown spouses above the father?

FTM does do some weird and wonderful things, I once spent ages trying to sort out scrambled relationships, I had one where it insisted on adding extra marriages. What I would try is to delete the middle Seth,(both as a husband and as a child) re-enter him as a husband to Mary Ann and then attach him to his parents.
You might want to do a back-up first in case it all goes haywire. |

Are you sure you haven't got two Seth Fishers 1813-1868 in your tree, Jood? If you have then it should let you merge them.

No Kate, I only have the three mentioned, all different dates.
However, I did what Crawfie suggested, and they are now all linked as they should be - many thanks. |
