Default 2 results - scotlands people

I'm searching for a marriage and have 2 results on Scotlands People.

They are a couple of days apart, different places. Is one of them a right one?

1 19/03/1777 CRAWFORD JOHN JEAN TUCKER/FR1848 (FR1848) M PORT GLASGOW /RENFREW 574/00 0060 0297

2 22/03/1777 CRAWFORD JOHN JEAN TUCKER FR806 (FR806) M GREENOCK NEW OR MIDDLE /RENFREW 564/01 0040 0119

PS: from searching on FMP and reading the transcriptions I'm pretty sure (poor memory, late night) both fathers for Jean are Joseph so the same marriage in 2 places, I think.

It's likely to be the same couple, Toni, as it wasn't unusual for a marraige to be recorded in both the bride's parish and the groom's parish if they were from different places. Also, Port Glasgow and Greenock are fairly close - about 10 miles apart.

Have you checked baptisms? If there are baptisms in both Port Glasgow and Greenock at about the same time, then you have two couples with the same name marrying at about the same time. In which case, look at naming patterns for children and grandchildren to see which couple is the best fit.

My money is on both records being the same couple.

Thanks. I'll crop it in photobucket and load it after dinner.

I've only checked the baptisms in Port Glasgow I know some of the children from the book I found on google. My James does not have a mother recorded and so do a couple more, but the mother is on the record, just incredibly hard, or impossible to read. I haven't checked Greenock. I'll see if FMP will distinguish so I don't have to pay for it.

I wish Scotland's People would have a sub not credits.

Have you looked at the death certificate after 1855 - as they usually record the parents names including maiden name too.

This is very useful for those born before 1855.

Have you looked at Family search?

If you look at the IGI - it doesn't give you the image but really helps when narrowing events down before going to Scotlandspeople.

Managed to figure out how to get the URL from your link. This one should work:

Now, what was the question again?!
