Default Staffordshire Marriage Allegations

OH's 2x-great-grandparents, John Newton and Ann Tufnall, married by licence at Checkley Parish Church by Licence in 1846.

I've been onto the Staffordshire Archives' website and they have an order form for marriage allegations.

The cost for ordering one marriage licence is £13, which I think is rather steep. I've never had to pay that much. It's a shame the details aren't on FMP.

It looks as though the images will eventually be available on Findmypast, Elizabeth:

Thanks, Kate, that's great. I'll just have to be patient.

I'm hoping we might find out more about what John was doing in Staffordshire. Upon his marriage he was a Grocer at Burton-on-Trent but I have never found him in the 1841 Census. He was born at Braceby, Lincolnshire in 1817 but I don't know when he went to Staffordshire.
He moved to London and after his marriage he became a Licensed Victualler.

If I remember rightly, Lichfield RO will send you two marriage allegations for that price, but I don't think there's a discount if you only want one.

Aagh!

According to that link, they're going to be putting a quarter of a million Staffs wills online. After all I've spent on the wretched things!

That was the same for me with Oxfordshire wills, Mary. It's infuriating, isn't it?

Never mind, they've been really useful, and goodness knows when they'll all go online.

Yes, I couldn't have waited for my Oxfordshire ones.

If anyone wants Cornish wills there is a huge ongoing Cornwall OPC project where lots of us are transcribing like mad. The latest total is just over 3,000 online (some of them aren't wills but the vast majority are). You can also see a summary of the wills with beneficiaries named.

I'm keen on all the Staffordshire information too.

Has Phase 2 gone live yet or is it only stage 1?

Elizabeth could you please provide a link to the Cornish Wills? It appears my families like being near yours.
