Default Varying cost of wills from ROs

I've been purchasing a lot of wills recently.

The ones I order from West Sussex RO I usually buy in batches of 5 or 6. So far the most expensive batch has been £8 and that would be for about 15 pages.

Last week I ordered one will from Bucks. They quoted £5 but the invoice has arrived and it is £7. It is two A3 pages.

It's amazing how much the cost varies from one record office to another.

It has got to depend - amongst all other things - how they are stored and how easy they are to copy. The Borthwick Institute used to be phenomenally expensive, until they changed their methods. Over twenty years ago, the Norfolk RO used to be £1 per sheet for a cloudy copy, with the bonus that you could usually see someone else's will coming through from the other side!
