Dorothée Edith Wharton
I'm trying to discover more about my great-uncle's first wife.
This is her first marriage: Name: Jack Brooker Birth Date: 1891 Age: 25 Spouse's Name: Dorothie Edith Wharton Spouse's Birth Date: 1893 Spouse's Age: 23 Event Date: 13 Jun 1916 Event Place: St. Mary'S, Bitton, Gloucester, England Father's Name: Fitzhardinge Woodford Brooker Mother's Name: Spouse's Father's Name: James Joseph Wharton Spouse's Mother's Name: Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I03835-2 System Origin: England-EASy GS Film number: 1597067 Reference ID: 180 The Brookers seem to have lived in Argentina for a while. Fitzharding Brooker was born on the Channel Islands. I suspect that Dorothée was born abroad too, as I haven't found a birth so far. From the marriage she should have been born c. 1893. Jack's service record is on FMP - it says he was fluent in Spanish and able to understand Italian and Portuguese. http://search.findmypast.co.uk/recor...fair76%2f10449 When did he die or did they divorce? Kenneth Noel Purkis and Dorothee Edith Wharton/Brooker married on 22nd October 1925. Dorothee became pregnant but suffered meningitis and died on 29th May 1926. Her infant daughter was rapidly delivered by Caesarean section after her mother died. She was handicapped and I know she was greatly loved. 1937 The Times Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1937 Death Purkis. – On Oct. 18, 1937, at “Parkland” Sydenham (her home for eight years), Dorothée, little invalid daughter of the late Dr. K.N. Purkis of Beckenham. The sweetest and most tenderly loved little charge. At rest. I'd love to find out more about Dorothée so any help would be appreciated. |

I'm trying to work out if this is the same person:
1911 Annie Burden 50 Lilla Burden 45 Edith Wharton 17 < b Westminster She is a niece of the two Burdens who are single sisters. So not instantly fitting in to the tree of Whartons and Andrews!! Annie Margarita Wharton s a widow in 1911 and has two of her four surviving children with her (not Edith/Dorothy), but she might be one of the non-survivors and therefore not your Dorothee.

Thank, Merry. I kept looking at that birth registration but I couldn't find them on the census. I'll have a better look. I can't find a baptism on Ancestry.

Apart from the birth reg there are no other entries for Edith D Wharton with the names that way round. Not that this proves much.

I presume the Brooker/Wharton births in Uxbridge are to do with another Brooker/Wharton marriage in Fulham in 1915?
When is your last sighting of Jack Brooker?

Well, if they had, he doesn't seem to have remarried in England/Wales!
