What was a "Court Guide?"
I have an ancestor listed in above for 1860.Can anyone please tell me if this was used just to assist authorities in tracing individuals?
I've Googled term, but with no luck. |

It sounds like the old kind of city directory, Vita. They used to list the posh people in the "court" section, separate from the "tradespeople".

Thanks, Kite - thought that might be the what it was, but only the "posh" included in the
court section? He would have loved that ! He most definitely had aspirations after a very humble beginning. |

Well, by 1860 I don't think the Court section was as exclusive as it was in the earlier part of the 19th century.

Well, I was going to say re your first post, Shona - "Thanks for that! Just as I was about
to share in a bit of reflected glory!" & then I read the link you provided(thanks) & I think he would have been well pleased to have been included among "people of social standing." |
