Default US census address search

I have a short sub to Ancestry Worldwide but am not used to searching the US census. Is there any way of doing an address search on the 1900 or 1910?

Rosa/Rosie Rubin arrived in Philadelphia 8th March 1901. From the passenger list I can make out she was going to -

Father A Rubin (stein crossed through) and Mrs Rubin
No 52 E. Washington *something beginning with S*, Norristown, Pa.
Parents been there 8 years.

I can’t make out the next bit except the last two words which look like Mr or Mrs Hughes? I don’t know if it refers to the Condition of Health, or is related to the money section.

The only bit of the possession of money section I can read is “Draft on National Bank of London Limited at”.

It also states widow - do you think it says 18months next to it?

I can't see any Rubin/Rubinstein couple in Norristown who would fit for the parents, in either 1900 or 1910 so I'd like to be able to see who was living in E.Washington Street/Square in case they were mistranscribed.

This is Rosa in 1910 for information

Ancestry don't tend to have address searches on the censuses, only the ones that were released most recently.

I think the address on the passenger list is E Washington Street. In the 1900 Norristown city directory the street guide just lists it as East Washington. Nobody is listed at 52 East Washington in that directory, at least according to ancestry's search. I don't think there is a listing by street in the directory, only alphabetically and none of the Rubins are at 52 E Washington.

This looks like part of East Washington Street on the 1900 census but I can't find a no 52:

Ah, just realised I could search the Norristown city directories for "52 E Washington" (in quotes) in the keyword field without specifying a name or place, and so I can get the names there around that time:
1902 - William White, laborer
1904 - Jacob S Frantz, printer
1908 - Bessie Mooney
1912 - James J Fay

Maybe the Rubins were lodgers?

Thanks for searching Kate. There are so many different US records available on Ancestry that I'm finding the searching hard going in comparison with the UK and Canadian ones. I hadn't even realised there were Norristown directories available.

That's a disappointment about the Rubin parents. With the Irish census only available from 1901, it's a struggle to match up the the correct Rubin families, especially as it is such a common name. The fact that Rosa was from Lithuania, rather than the usual "Russia", was, I had hoped going to lead to great discoveries .
