Traton Bennett??
Hi guys, help if possible please on this one. Doing it for a friend but basically her grandparents the Flaxmans are of interest. Cant find the grandad in 1911 William Jonathan Flaxman but on further discussion it was mentioned by friends auntie that he was once found running down Kensington High Street naked and proclaiming some sort of religious statements - so it may be is in an asylum in 1911. (Have found him earlier back to his great grandad in Nofolk so far ...) But anyways, following the granny:
In 1911 - friends granny - Maud Mary Matilda Flaxman (nee Collins) is living in Islington area with her young son Edward and a couple called Susan and William Cordy. Relationship to head is given as "step grandaughter". The other Flaxman child, Doris born 1906 (friends deceased mum) is with the Collins grandparents. Trying to work out how the Cordys are related. Ive found their marriage in 1883 with Susan shown as Susanna Bennett widow, father George Usher, engineer. Going back Ive found a Susanna Usher (father George engineer) marrying a Traton Bennett - "horse? soldier" in St Brides, London in 1858. both shown as full age. Now, Im blowed if I can find Traton (Traiton) Bennett before 1858 or after come to that and I am trying to get my head round how William Cordy is Maud (Flaxman) Collins' step grandad? Help please? NB Hang on, just found a Traton Bennett in the electoral registers for London but its after the wife remarries. So is it the same bloke do we think? ame: Traton Bennett Year: 1896 County or Borough: Kensington and Chelsea Ward or Division/Constituency: Kensington North Street Address: 184 Cornwall road Last edited by Heather P T; 23-09-13 at 15:37. |

Not sure it helps, but Traton, Trayton etc is a Sussex forename.

There are a few Collinses on the same page of the 1901 census as the Cordys, Heather, do you know whether any of them is related to Maud?

Hi Kite, many thanks - I dont know but I will certainly print it off and show it to Mary as she said she and her sis had got all the Collins info and it was the Flaxmans that had flummoxed them.
It would be nice to work out this weird relationship though Oh thanks Shona, that may be very helpful. Im guessing may be they are both out of the country in 61. 71 and 81. |

There are two Trayton Bennetts with only a few years' difference in age on the 1841 census, one transcribed as Trazton by ancestry. The one transcribed as Trazton is age 7 with John and Rebacka.
