Abbreviation in PR
http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/22...l=ReturnRecord
I'm looking at baptism for 1758. Against Thomas Crossley, 24th September, there is the letter "S". Some other entries have the letter "B". I'm wondering whether it's an abbreviation for Sowerby. I'm not sure what "B" would be. Any thoughts on whether I might be correct? |

If you look at the previous years, in 1754 there are place names such as Sowerby, West Field, S Town, Turvin, Norland, Skircoate, Lighthazles, then mostly abbreviations such as S, B, B Qr, W F. I haven't managed to figure out what B is yet but I would think S is very likely to be Sowerby, yes.
