Ruined his family by gambling, according to his granddaughter Elizabeth.

Banns of marriage were published between Thomas Lucy, widower, and Martha Haningshaw, widow, at St Mary Newington 11th to 25th June 1775, but the marriage does not appear to have taken place before Martha Haningshaw was a witness at the marriage of John Lucey (Thomas's son) 15th July 1775. There was a Martha Lucey who was a witness at Alice's (Thomas's daughter) wedding in 1781, though. Matthew Hanginshaw bachr married Martha Marston, widow, 9 Sep 1753 St Katherine by the Tower, City of London, by licence.

Could be the Thomas Lucy who was buried 10 May 1778 at St Olave, Bermondsey.
