I have found two possible baptisms for Margaret - 6 Jun 1731, father Cuthbert, and 30 Apr 1732, father John. William and Margaret didn't name a son Cuthbert or John as far as I know. I need to recheck the marriage bond (if I have it!) to see what info is given about her. It seems someone told me her age was 16 on the marriage bond and they tried to send me a copy as an attachment on a message on ancestry but it doesn't look as though they ever actually managed to send it to me.

Found the marriage bond on ancestry:
marriage bond but it doesn't say who Margaret's father was. The bondsman is James Swarbrick of Treales in the parish of Kirkham, husbandman. |

Would that be because her father was deceased? Could it be her grandfather or guardian?

Could be, but he might not be related or connected to her at all.

Why would he put up a bond? Philanthropy? Julie

I think you could pay someone to do it kind of like you pay insurance, but would have to check.

Might be a nice big bag of red herrings for you, Kite, but someone has transcribed a lot of wills from that general area. Goosnargh seems to be about 5 miles from St Michael on Wyre. Includes a couple Hool[l]s and several Swarbricks, including a James Swarbrick.

Thanks, Janet. Hoole seems to be a pretty common name around there.

Not to mention a multiplicity of William Millers, no doubt.
