Edward Searle missing in 1851

I'm tracing a sideshoot forwards in time and I'm stuck on Edward Searle who was baptised in Hertford in 1817, parents Francis Benjamin Searle and Mary (nee Mason). He is easy enough to find from 1861 onwards until his death in 1887, but I can't find him in 1841 or 1851.

Edward (batchelor) married Mary Burroughs (spinster) in 1855 in Islington, so only son Francis was born after this.

Mary was baptised in Bishopstone Wiltshire in 1821, parents John and Sophia and I can't find her in 1851 either.

All of the children use the name Searle, but Edward seems to have been baptised as Edward William Burroughs in Chelsea in 1844 (parents Edward and Mary). Marian was born in Holyport, Berkshire and there's a birth record for Mary Ann Burroghs in Cookham in 1849.

There are birth records for William and Charles in Islington both as Searle and Burroughs, so I'm assuming Edward Searle is the father of all of the children and for some strange reason they didn't marry until they already had 4.

If I could find them all together in 1851 that would pretty much prove it. Can anyone locate them ?

I've tried *earl, *earle, burro* and barro* on both Ancestry and FMP. I've tried son Edward and daughter Marian (and all variations I could think of) individually and with one or both parents. I'm starting to think they have somehow missed being recorded.

What was a Town Traveller?

Suggests they were moving about.

He is an agent later on. It is possible that he was travelling on the continent in 1851.

He marries by licence and his father is a gentleman on his cert, so a different league to the carman I found.

Agreed, although I can't find the family you found on the 1861. Although the whole family is fairly wealthy, Edward only left £246 in his will, compared to his brother's £7000.

Commercial traveller I think. I think you're right they are on the move, but I was hoping for a bit more evidence to show all 5 kids belonged to Edward before claiming them for my tree
