Second opinion, please!

I have a will from 1647 that is fairly easy to read.

It is of Peter Batte of Wotton Underwood, my 9x-great-grandfather.

Here are the baptisms of his children:

19 Feb 1610 Elisabeth fila Petri Battie
15 Nov 1612 Jone daughter of Peter Battie
28 Jan 1615 Sarah daughter of Peter Battie
25 Jul 1617 Wilmot filia Petri Battie
10 Oct 1619 Susanna filia Petri Battie
27 Jan 1622 Alicea fila Petri Battie
15 Aug 1624 Edwardus filius Petri Battyie
4 Feb 1627 Petrus filius Petri Batty

The two sons, Edward and Peter, are mentioned.

Then I have:

My son Thomas ? tenn pounds


My son Edw? Pratt forty shillings

This is Edward Battee:




He later mentions his sons-in-law:

"Item I give unto my son in laws Thomas Atwell Robart Osborne Anthony Hodges twelve pound a piece"


Are the two in my first post likely to be more sons-in-law?
Peter Batte seems to have had six daughters, and they don't feature in the burial registers for Wotton Underwood transcribed by the Bucks FHS.

I think Thomas's surname is Fencut, and FamilySearch has a baptism for a Thomas Fencote 17 Nov 1615 at Wotton Underwood, father John Fencote.

Yes, more likely to be sons-in-law, could also be stepsons but given the number of various surnames, much more likely sons-in-law.

Thanks, Kate - I wanted him to say sons-in-law as he did with the others.

He mentions his grandchildren, but doesn't give their names.

It's hard to find any of the marriages.

I just have two marriages for the girls:

1 Oct 1634 James Edwards and Anne Batty
Banns
1 May 1636 Thomas Day and Sarah Batty

Neither of the surnames seems to feature in the will, though!

Was Wilmot a common girls' name?

If you search for Wilmot as a given name in England on FamilySearch in the 1600's you do get quite a lot of results. I wonder whether Wilma is a variation of it?

Kate, I have the booklets from from the FHS. They are great for me - most pages have two or three of my names, and some pages 12+, especially for the baptisms.

It seems that most of the Battys moved away from Wotton Underwood. They were mainly girls.
