Hayward tomb St Mary Aylesbury
On Tuesday we went over to Aylesbury to the RO and then went to St Mary's Church to view the tomb that they had discovered under years' growth of ivy.
I thought you might like to see some photos. I have been able to read the inscription on this long face: left-hand side CHARLES HAYWARD Died 13th March 1829 Aged 46 Years WILLIAM Son of JOHN AND HARRIETT ELIZABETH PARROTT Died 5th February 1880 aged 66 Years right-hand side HARRIETT ELIZABETH Daughter of JOHN PARROTT AND HARRIETT ELIZABETH his Wife died 11th April 1821 in the seventh Year of her Age. ALFRED their Son died 7th March 1824 Aged thirteen Months HARRIETT ELIZABETH Wife of JOHN PARROTT died 29th December 1840 Aged 56 Years JOHN PARROTT died 10th February 1849 Aged 62 Years. This is the John Parrott who was the brother of my Anne Parrott who married Daniel Jeffcoat at the same church. |

This one is giving me more problems as it is the oldest inscription:
Here lie the remains? of LOUISA ELIZ. HAYWARD who died April ? 1807 ? aged ? 11 Months SUSANNAH ELIZABETH HAYWARD Children of WILLIAM HAYWARD And ELIZABETH his wife And of ELIZABETH HAYWARD who died 19th April 1820 Aged 44? And of the said WILLIAM HAYWARD who died ? February 1830 aged 53? Last edited by ElizabethHerts; 03-02-13 at 21:13. |

The next photo shows a grave next to the tomb. It is of Henry Hayward, surgeon, and one of his daughters:

Thanks, Shona, I feel very lucky to have found this.
I have deciphered a little more of the end of the tomb which is barely legible. Luckily NBI3 helps with some of the burial dates and I also have wills and a couple of newspaper articles to help too. |
