Default Harold richard Ayres Palmer

Help needed folks???
After lots of searching for my wife's grandfather death, where & When.
We found where his Ashes were scattered. ( with lots of help from the Salvation Army!!)
It appeared he died in a old peoples home. My father in law had not seen him since the 1960's and my wife never met him.
What i need help with is how can i find out more about his life? How he ended up in the home, who paid for it etc.
The problem is the home closed in 2000.
Would it be possible to find his NI number etc?
Thanks guys

Was the old people's home a private one or a council-run one?

If it was a council one I would say contact the council and see if they will give you access to his records, but I'm not sure where the records will be if it was a private home.

Have you found out whether he left a will?

I know that our local record office has the National Probate Calendar, which will show if he left a will, and I think they have it as recently as 1988, so I could hopefully check that for you, but it isn't open today, so will have to leave it until later in the week.

I've searched the National Probate Calendar from 1988 through to 1998 and there was no entry. All I can think of is you could contact the local council for the Chard area and ask if they know where the records for that home are kept.

There's a public member tree on Ancestry - gives year of birth, mother's name...and has a photo of him. Here's the link:

http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/221...son/1193122356

Unless, this is your tree, it would be worth contacting the tree owner for more info.

I looked at all the Harold Palmers on the National Probate Calendar anyway, ignoring the middle names.
