Anyone find my Kilpatricks in 1940 US census?

Although Michigan is apparently fully indexed, I can't find my Great Uncles & Great Aunts.

Can anyone find them for me please?

Charles Ralph Kilpatrick, born abt 1885 in Ontario, Canada.
His wife Alma, born 14 October 1889 in North Dakota, USA.
Their 2 daughters had probably left home by then.
Rose, born 1915 and Violet born 1916, both in Canada.

Here they are in 1930.

Charles & Alma both died in 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, amd I remember my Dad talking about them, but I don't know what happened to the daughters.


Charles' brother Herb(ert) Alexander Kilpatrick, born Manitoba, Canada in 1889. I know he became a US citizen, but on census and other records I have found his birthplace is given as Michigan, but family history says he was born in Manitoba. As far as I know, his parents never lived in Michigan, only in North Dakota other than in Canada. Herb died in 1942 in Detroit.

Herb married twice, first to Gertrude Sanborn (b 1899 New York) in 1913 and then after their divorce, to Rose Edwards (b abt 1899 in Canada). Not sure what year Herb & Rose married, nor when he divorced Gertrude, but the divorce was prior to 1940.

Gertrude then married Herb & Charles' brother George in 1941!
I have found Gertrude in 1940 as head, living with George & his son George and her nephew William Sanborn.

I remember being told Aunt Rose & Aunt Gertrude couldn't stand each other and the other was never to be mentioned in either Aunt's company!

I cannot find Herb or Rose in 1940. They should be in Detroit, Michigan.
EDIT I've just found a Rose Edwards of the right age with husband Thomas living in Detroit Wayne, Michigan in 1940 so maybe she married Herb later than I thought.
