I hope the wait will be worthwhile, Toni.
I have just noticed something I find rather hard to believe: "Baptisms 10,035 1668-1679 St Dunstan, Stepney" Over 10,000 baptisms in 11 years in one church? It seems rather unlikely! |

On reflection, I suppose 1,000 a year isn't so much when you break it down, especially in a busy parish. I think I'm more used to looking at parish registers for rural areas where you can skip through the years pretty quickly.

The number of baptisms in some of the London parishes is mind-boggling. I remember counting over 30 in one day when I was doing a lookup - there was a note by the baptism I was looking for to say they had left the church without the child being baptised. I suspect they were fed up with waiting, as the child was actually baptised the following week.
A lot of my family are Londoners, so I'm always thrilled when I manage trace someone back to a small village with a good run of registers! |
