Do you get a citation, or just the fact?

I've just found Adams Edwards in the list, and the ship is the Amethyst, which means he must have been involved in the capture of a foreign ship during the Napoleonic Wars. (I knew his ship was, but some of the men were guarding prisoners, so not involved)

Could someone just have a peek for me, please?

It says the Amethyst engaged the Niemen on 5th April 1809 and the Niemen was taken. The Captain was Captain Seymour and the officer promoted was Lieut. Hill. Adams Edwards was a Mid (presumably = Midshipman), and was not absent on the day of the battle, and not marked R (i.e. not a deserter). Claim verified by ship's books - yes. Reference to application 7/953.

Ooh, thank you, Kite!

I've read up the ship's logs (which downplay the whole proceedings) but I've always wondered if he actually took part. Michael Seymour was a dashing and glamorous captain and I think the family followed his career with pride long after Adams went onto half-pay.
