Time on Birth Certificate.

I have just recieved a birth certificate and it has a time of birth on it.

(1/2 past 5 a.m. - I assume this means 5.30 am)

Does this mean that he could have been a twin?

I can find no other birth registration for that time and no death either, and there is no other child living in the house on the 1841 census (although they were in the workhouse).

In the early days of civil registration, some registrars put the time of birth on all the birth certificates whether they were multiple births or not. It sounds like one of those cases.

The Scottish ones always show the time of birth.

My GGG grandfather's birth certificate from 1837 also has a time shown on it. I'm almost certain he wasn't a twin so I agree with Kite and think that it was a dilligent registrar.
