It says Msex Bow, Msex being an abbreviation for Middlesex.

Ohhhhh!!! They did come from Middlesex, though I've never heard Bow after it. I thought it said "User Bow" lol

Thanks, Kate.

Could anyone identify the Abode and Quality, Trade or Profession on this one (the last one, dated 2nd August)

Bow (aka Stratford-le-bow) is a district in east London, now in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Beware - It is sometimes said that to be a true Cockney you need to be born within earshot of the sound of Bow Bells and that these are the bells of Bow Church in the heart of Bow. However, that is incorrect as the saying actually refers to St Mary-le-Bow, which is approximately three miles west on Cheapside, in the City of London.

I don't want to give the wrong info abut the occ in the baptism entry you have posted and at the moment I'm not sure what it says out of a couple of possibilities. Could you either give a link to the image or tell us who it's for and the year? I need to see more of the page and maybe the pages either side.

Have you never heard of The Bow Street Runners ? maybe not being in Australia .
The Bow Street Runners were the very first Policemen in the world to get paid a weekly wage in around 1750 - they were stationed in East London so I presume in Stratford Le BOW ??...Merry might educate me on this ?...in fact I will google it for curiosity.

Bow Street is in Westminster ,London and 6 Policeman policed the streets of Westminster from 1749 to 1838 .
Should have known the rich area would be protected first - silly custard aren't I ....
by the way - Good Morning:)

No I couldn't read that but perhaps as Merry said it might help if we saw all the image. To compare writing style.

It looks like Sert (i.e abbreviation of Servant) to me.

That was one of my options!

Bear with me, I'm still trying to find the particular census! Servant sounds good. Will be back.

There are two (different years for some reason 1813 & 1814) - one is a baptism I've had for ages. The 1814 one I downloaded the other day for Charles Burgefs - last entry. 1814 is correct.

A possibility Jenny

That wouldn't be a "Quality, Trade or Profession", though.

Also, I think it is only the ones which say "St Marylebone Workhouse" or "do" below that in the Abode column who were actually in the workhouse and the dash in that column for the rest just means parish of St Marylebone, considering the other professions.

As I had previously said, "servant" does fit in as he was a butler later.
Thanks Merry.
