View Full Version : Violet Louisa Rayner
"My wicked aunt"
Married James Sayer in 1945. So, I should have two bites at the cherry in 1939.
She was born in 1895 and this is her in 1911:

But she was probably on the verge of leaving Norfolk then. Can anyone spot her in 1939? She was known for imposing on her relations, but I can't see her
Her dob is 5 Feb 1895 (at death). Just getting in the bath, so hopefully you will have found her by the time I've finished!
I'm back! *looks round hopefully*
Oooh, but she was baptised before she was born, on 27 Jan 1895.

I'm having no luck looking for her.
How was she wicked, Phoenix? :)

No help here with 1939, but wondering the same thing...
The despair of her family. Married a sponger. Had a far more exciting life than her siblings and once (clearly before she married) went to Paris with a man.

FamilySearch has the Norfolk electoral registers up to 1952, but I don't think they are all indexed yet. So you could use the browse to see when Violet stops being listed there on the electoral register?

It looks as if in 1933 she is at 42 Montagu Square, London W1 with the Bains family. I know she was a servant and a cordon bleu cook, so that probably is her, topping the list of servants (all female). But I get the impression that she never stayed anywhere long. When I first came to know her, in the 70s, all her possessions could be housed in a suitcase.

Had I registered the death, that little mistake might not have happened. There were other errors on the certificate :(

Looking more closely at those Norfolk electoral registers on FamilySearch, it doesn't look as though they go past 1915 for the Letheringsett area anyway.

So, when was her birthday?
So, when was her birthday?
*frets*
I've forgotten :o
I thought it was December: most of the family seemed to share a single birthday in December.

There is a Violet ~??? born Dec 1894 comes up in Brixham UD, Devon. ~??? Rusley is also on this record, and 3 closed records. But she should be listed under two surnames, shouldn't she?

Yes, she should be under two surnames. I can find her siblings, and they don't appear to have extras staying with them. I'm wondering if she just didn't register until she had to. She had a marked distrust of the authorities.
