Hi all,

I'm trying to find out when Doris Emma Trigg (née Hiron) died, as I am a bit confused about something but would ideally not want to have to spend money ordering any certificates.

Doris Emma Hiron was born in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol in 1907 and married William George Trigg in 1931. William died on 16/03/1937 and you can view his probate record here (https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar/GetImgSrc?filePath=%2F1937%2FT%2F004249_trickey_19 37.Png), which mentions his widow Doris as still being alive at that point.

My first thought was that this (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?gss=angs-c&new=1&rank=1&gsfn=Doris+Emma&gsfn_x=0&gsln=Trigg&gsln_x=NP_NN&msbdy=1907&cpxt=1&cp=11&MSAV=1&uidh=yke&pcat=34&h=22713920&db=ONSDeath93&indiv=1&ml_rpos=1) could be her death as the name and area are correct, though her age would be few years out. I suppose it must be a relative of William's.

However, as she is mentioned on her husband's probate record, I have ruled this out. I've not been able to find a record of (a second) marriage for a Doris E Trigg within the right sort of time frame; there is a Kent marriage in the 1950s, but it seems there was another Doris E Trigg born there in the 1920s and so I assume that is her.

All I can find is this (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?gss=angs-c&new=1&rank=1&gsfn=Doris+Emma&gsfn_x=0&gsln=Trigg&gsln_x=NP_NN&msbdy=1907&cpxt=1&cp=11&MSAV=1&uidh=yke&pcat=34&h=2520459&db=ONSDeath93&indiv=1&ml_rpos=4). The date of birth is a year out, but the date could be correct.

Do we think that's her, minus the middle name/initial? Where else could she be? Have I missed something obvious? I can't find any children for William and Doris.

Thanks. :)

James, have you looked for her on the 1939 Register? There is a Doris Trigg listed in Merthyr Tydfil, dob 24 Apr 1907, and also a Doris Emma Bigg (Trigg) listed in Bristol, born May 1907. I don't yet know whether this means she married a Bigg or if the surname has been corrected from Bigg to Trigg (or vice versa)? Doris Emma Hiron's birth was registered Jul-Sep 1907 which would fit with a birth in May.

Ah yes, here we are: Oct-Dec 1945 Bristol, Doris E Trigg married Percival Bigg.

Doris Emma Bigg died Oct-Dec 1978 Bristol, dob 25 May 1907. Feeding that date of birth back into the 1939 Register confirms her date of birth.

In case you are wondering why that marriage didn't come up on your search, James, I'm guessing you only searched on ancestry, who have transcribed her as Deris! I would seriously recommend searching FreeBMD instead of or as well as ancestry:

Now that is very interesting... I've definitely seen a Percival Bigg mentioned on another family member's probate record!

EDIT: Here (https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar/GetImgSrc?filePath=%2F1963%2FH%2F004703_hipsman_19 63.Png).

Thanks very much! :)

Ah, interesting. They had two children it seems, but none from her first marriage.

Thanks again for the help, Kate. It is always appreciated, and my family trees would be much poorer without your aid. :D
