I have found a couple of mentions in the British Newspaper Archive:

Caledonian Mercury Thur 8 Nov 1739

Caledonian Mercury, Sat 26 May 1764 (plus several repeat notices)

All and Haill that TENEMENT of LAND, lying on the north side of the Grass market street, Edinburgh, near the city wall, formerly possessed by David Ferrier Stabler, and others, and now by Henry Walker and others, with a large area, convenient for building, measuring in length one hundred thirty-four feet, and in breadth about 30 feet; behind which there is a garden or yeard 95 feet in length, by 62 feet in breadth, capable of being turned to account in many different shapes... The articles and conditions of roup, with the progess of writs, to be seen in the hands of Alexander Gray, Writer to the Signet, who has power to conclude a bargain in private, any time before the sale. The subjects themselves will be shewn by the present possessors.

David had an older brother James who could be the one mentioned in the first ad. I don't know of a William, but there is a gap in the family that he might fit into. (Walter and Margaret married 20 Dec 1695 at Mid Calder, they have a daughter Margaret Fairer baptised 29 Nov 1696 at Midcalder, then the next baptism I have is Bethia Ferrier 31 Dec 1702 at St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh.)
