What ever happened to Sarah Jane?

Sarah Jane Nash - my great gandmother's sister, was born in Burlescombe, Devon. She appears in the 1861 census:

James Nash, 40, ag lab, b North Petherton, Somerset
Jane Nash, 38, born Burlescombe, Devon
William Nash, 13, ag lab, born West Monkton, Somerset
Mary Ann, 9, born West Monkton, Somerset
John Nash, 7, born Burlescombe, Devon
Charlotte Nash, 1, born Tiverton, Devon

I can't find her on the 1871 census.

Sarah Jane Nash gave birth to a son, Arthur, on 17 March 1876 in Tiverton Workhouse. She wasn't married and no father is named on the birth certificate.

I can find no trace of her after that.

In 1881, Arthur was with his grandparents, James and Jane Nash in Stoodleigh, Devon. He is also with them in 1891 in Tiverton.

Any thoughts?

you dont say when she was born ??? I cannot find her in 1861 to get an idea

I've been tracing Sarah's son, Arthur Nash, to see if that provides any clues.

Although named Arthur in the 1871 and 1881 censuses, his full name was Thomas Arthur Nash.

In 1881, he worked for the railways. He moved to London, where he worked as a doorman and barman.

On 16 February 1913, he married Lavinia Parratt at St Mark's Clerkenwell. The image is on Ancestry. Thomas Arthur was 36 and Lavinia was 33. He named his father as James Nash, farm labourer. I think this must be his grandfather - as he (as Arthur) appeared on the 1881 and 1891 censuses with his grandparents.

I think Thomas Arthur Nash must have served in WW1. While the couple married in 1915, their first child, Lavinia May Nash, wasn't born until 1919.

There are some WW1 army records on ancestry for a Thomas Arthur Nash but it isn't him.
