Oliver Searle was bp in Amberley, Sussex in 1837. His birth is not in Civil Registration.

Mother was Jane, b Wittering c 1808. Now, the only Jane bp about that date is Jane Saunders and several trees show her as mother. There is only one snag: none of those trees have a marriage.

Oliver's descendant fancied a marriage in Portsea between John Searle and Jane Martin. It's the only John Searle/Jane marriage in the time frame. On family search and FMP but no images, no extra clues.

I went back to look for a Jane Saunders, and the first marriage that popped up was to a George MARTIN, Birdham 1825.

I went back to look at Oliver in 1841, to see who was in the household:

And there is Alfred Martin aged 8

So the trees are right about the name, and we are right about the marriage
