DNA matches again
ES is a close match over 20 cM with me and my cousin (so Mum's side) No match with my aunt (Dad's side)
GS is a 10 cM match with me and also shows a match with ES. So far so good. GS is not a match with cousin. Okay. But GS IS a match with my aunt. Does this mean that GS is related to both sides of my family? Or does the shared DNA match come from DNA which is nothing to do with me at all?

How many cMs and how many segments does GS share with you, ES, and your aunt?

GS is 11 cM with aunt. (one segment)
ES is 27 cM over 2 segments with me. ES, of course, has no tree.

My guess is that GS is related to you on your father's side, and related to ES in some way. Doesn't really help, I know!

Yes, that's what I think, Kite. But it does mean one has to treat results much more circumspectly. I've an alleged mutual ancestor with another match, but it means a mutual ancestor in an entirely different county to where I had expected - and with a very common surname.
