N for service records, I think, but their database doesn't include officers or men who were killed in action.

The medal card shows he was a private so hopefully the records have survived and Joan will have some luck.

Just to say that Ancestry DOES have service records for those killed in action (if their records have survived, of course)

Thank you for all your replies.

I don't think that the person was killed in action, but have heard a rumour that he was badly injured.

Will have to go back to Kew very soon
