If you know the exact date of birth the search period could be narrowed down to 2 quarters, couldn't it? The one the birth occurred in and the one after.

You aren't trawling through all the birth indexes for a quarter looking for people with a particular first name, are you? Surely ancestry's birth index search will find them all in one go?
