Joining in stamping feet. The OH is Irish and trying to find the father of John Ryan born in Tipperary is nigh on impossible.

The Fahey name isn't as common as Ryan, though. The name is concentrated in Co Galway, Co Tipperary and Co Cork.

Sounds like Fahey! Also it shows it was a Roman Catholic wedding so that fits.
Can I ask what you googled to get that?

I saw that and it is possibly another child. Mum died first, or at least was registered earlier than the child though.

Mary's mother living at Balnikill, children born at Balnikill, Galway.

Possible for Margaret's brother?
Could be him, thanks Kate. Do you think the wife's maiden name was Fahy or that they wrote the wrong name? You are good at this.

I would guess so. There is another C of R on the page and also a C of E so C of R is not a typo for C of E.

C of R = Church of Rome.

Very clever Shona. I've not seen it put that way before.

You can ask, but I can't remember, sorry! Probably something like Charles Jones Orange 1853.

Could be either.

I can't find any trace of Nancy Broderick (Michael Fahy's relative), by the way, unless she is called Ann everywhere else.

This site looks useful:
Galway Emigrant Index

It includes an Elizabeth Fahy emigrating in 1857 age 31, from Ballinakill, widow, daughter of John and Madeline Fahy, father dead, mother living in Galway. Elizabeth has 2 children with her - Eliza age 13 and Michael 8. The ship is the Vocalist. Their passage is paid by Elizabeth's sister Mrs Michael Fahy (presumably Mary who is mentioned earlier in this thread). Also Elizabeth's deceased husband seems to have been named Michael Fahy. I don't envy you this lot! At least it confirms that Mary's maiden name really was Fahy.

Link to the passenger list image for Elizabeth Fahy and her children:
ancestry

Oh, and that Galway site has Nancy's relationship to Michael transcribed as cousin. But there is no Nancy Broderick emigrating on there.

oh thanks Kate it all looks great. I'll have a better look once the kids are at school.

I wonder if the Fahy families are all related? Guess I'm going to have to go further back to work it out.
