Default Huge reward offer spotted in 1802 parish register!

A newspaper clipping has been stuck into the Carlton in Lindrick parish register (on the page showing the marriage banns of my 5xg-grandparents but not connected to them), but it doesn't show the date of the newspaper:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...876&pId=930700

FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS - To the CLERGY, PARISH CLERKS, and Others - FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS REWARD will be PAID to any person who shall first SUPPLY a certified COPY of the genuine ENTRY of the MARRIAGE of WILLIAM HENRY RICKETTS, or JERVIS, and CECILIA JANE VINET, between Jan 1, 1800, and Oct 10, 1802 (the name of Jervis was assumed June 10, 1801). The Marriage is believed to have taken place privately, and was kept secret for family reasons. - Application to be made to Mr. A. M. White, solicitor, North Hill, Colchester.

I assume there was a big inheritance depending on a proof of the marriage! I wonder whether the reward was claimed?

According to Newspapers.com, the advert was placed in newspapers in 1879.

However, a Cecilia Jane Vinet, spinster, married a James Fussell at St Mary Abbots Church, Kensington, on the 30th Sep 1807, and I doubt there were many women of that name. So I doubt that the earlier marriage actually happened, at least legally.

I found some info about them on here:

Well, it was a bit more interesting than most of the Nottinghamshire parish register pages that I have been looking at!

lol I thought you were going to say you had found the earlier marriage and were about to attempt to claim the reward!

Looks like a marriage confirmation was needed so one of the sons Cecilia bore could inherit the title if it was prove he was legitimate.
