The Steam Tug Fury incident
You might be interested to know that a William Buck was one of four Pill Westerman named by Bristol City Council for apprehension for their part in 1836 for setting adrift the Fury and putting it's captain into a small boat. No punative sentences seem to have arisen.
Mary Pooling had been suggested to me for William's wife but does not seem to be right. Maybe, Mary Hobbs ? Someone has suggested that James Buck (1755) (William's father) was the son of James Buck (1725) from Portishead, who in turn was the son of John Buck (1688) and Rachel Berrick also from Portishead, as was the next link John Buck and Mary White. The other Pill Buck family which descends from George Buck (1760) via his son Samuel (1789) is also unknown in terms of further ancestry. Very frrustrating. Andrew |
