Another Loose End .......
I've been unable to find the connection between my Headland family & the
following person - Henry Thomas Headland b 1813, Middlesex. I feel there must be a link, as in a London trade directory of 1846 my 3xg uncle Thomas Hughes Headland is shown at the same address - 24 Long Lane Smithfield. Henry Thomas is definitely not a sibling - Thomas Hughes did have a brother Henry, but that was my 2xg grandfather Henry William, an Islington dyer & scourer. Henry Thomas is an oil & colourman. Henry Thomas's parents are shown as John & Ann & I haven't come across them in my research either. He also had a sister named Ann. I've traced Henry T, his wife, & two daughters who remain unmarried, through the censuses (the 1861 census says he was b Chelsea)but nothing rings a bell. I suppose it could be a coincidence that two Headlands were sharing the same premises in 1846, but I wouldn't have thought it was that common a name. Thomas Hughes's father was Thomas Headland b Uxbridge 1786, whose parentage is by no means certain, so anything linking us to Henry Thomas might just help to make that picture a little clearer, too. Can anyone offer any suggestions or pinpoint something I may have missed? |
