My Maynards again....
I seem to have read a will for a George Maynard (Mennard, Mainard etc) from Bedford, probate granted in 1728, but I can't find it now.
Can anyone else?

I'm wondering if maryphil told me about it?
I previously thought George was not mine, but now I've eliminated the alternative person I though was, he is back in the running. I could just send for it from Bedford CRO but was just trying to find it quicker than that! lol

After a little difficulty I now have a copy of the will for George Maynard for Bedford CRO.
As I think I previously imagined, it doesn't help much in proving or otherwise if the William Maynard mentioned in it is mine or not. George Maynard was buried at St Peter's Bedford in Feb 1727/8 and his will was proved a few days later having been signed in Dec 1724. In the will he mentions his wife Susan and their surviving children: Mary, Susan, John, Elizabeth, Sarah and William. There are fitting baptisms for these children at either St Peter's or St Paul's churches in Bedford between 1694 and 1718. There were six other baptisms, but all those children were buried by the time George wrote his will. So, is Wm bap 1715 the same person who married Elizabeth Crawley in 1737 at St Paul's Bedfordshire (saying he was 'of Shillington' Beds at that time) and lived after that at Kempston in Bedfordshire? There is another William Maynard bap in Kempston in 1710 but I think he married Ruth Wootton in 1729 and Ruth was described as a widow before my William died, so I think he can probably be eliminated. It bothers me that none of my William's children or grandchildren were given the name George.

I'm finding bits and pieces which seem to be about George Maynard's family, so am collecting them here.
Surviving children as at Dec 1724: Mary bap 1694 Susan 1695 John 1698 Elizabeth 1707 Sarah 1712 William 1715 According to the will, George was a carpenter. There are several mentions of George in the Bedford CRO archive indexes and several that mention son John at the same time, also a carpenter. 'John Maynard, carpenter' appears in those indexes until at least 1760. Susan Maynard may have married Wm Leeds in 1720. It's possible either she or Wm could have been dead within fifteen years and either of them may have remarried within that time! Having said that, there's no mention in George's will of any of his daughters being married. 1720 William Leeds, wife & daughter Removed to: St.Peter Bap of only child? Susan Leeds 25 Dec 1721 Mother or daughter bur 10 Oct 1733?? Possible burials for Wm Leeds: 1731, 1766 or 1782 Who are these women getting married?: Susannah Leeds 29 May 1732 Saint Peter,Bedford Christopher Docitor Susanna Leeds 25 Sep 1743 Saint Paul,Bedford Robt Gorden ??? Burial DOSETER CHRISTOPHER b 1710 bur 1783 ??? Burial GORDEN ROBERT 1762 1763 A cottage in the parish of St. Peter, in the occupation of William Leeds; abutting E. on the common street

Elizabeth Maynard possibly married John Tyler at St Peter's Bedford in 1728.
This couple seem to vanish (no children's baptisms or immediate deaths), which is a similar pattern to my William Maynard!
