Default Mary Ann Coleman & Sarah Coleman

Mary Ann Coleman married in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1891, some six weeks after the census, to Thomas Thompson in a Registrar's Office.

She said she was 19, daughter of Thomas Coleman deceased.

In 1901, on the census, she said her birthplace was Reading.
In 1911, she said her birthplace was Reading, London and she was aged 40.

In 1911, a couple of doors from Mary Ann in Gill Street, Newcastle there is a thomas Coleman b c 1883.

In 1901, (as Thomas Cargey) he is with Gilbert Cargey, born Felling, Sarah Cargey wife b West Brompton at 58 Elm St

Gilbert married Sarah Coleman in Newcastle Sept qtr 1898.

In 1891, the family was Gilbert Cargey, Sarah, Mary Ann b Reading, Clara b 1875 Newcastle & Thomas b 1883. (all down as Cargey)

Clara & Thomas are on Freebmd as Coleman.

In 1881, the family is
Sarah Coltman 29, soft goods hawker b London, Mary Ann 10 b London, Clara 5 b Newcastle & Thomas 3 b Newcastle (an elder Thomas who died as a little boy)

I think that Sarah was a servant in Lambeth in 1871. I can find absolutely no trace of Mary Ann's birth nor any baptism in London records or on Family Search.

It looks as if Sarah did not get married until 1898 and was the daughter of William & Mary Ann Coleman, living in Chelsea. The idea is strengthened by the fact that William Coleman's father appears to be Thomas Coleman who was born in Compton, Berkshire.

As Mary Ann Thompson nee Coleman called her children Sarah, Thomas & Clara I am confident that I have identified her correctly. As Sarah gives her birthplace as West Brompton I am happy that I have found her too (and may well persuade the friend I am doing this for to get Clara Coleman's birth certificate to confirm the theory)

Can anyone suggest birth sources for Mary Ann Coleman - presumably late 1871 or in 1872 - in the Reading Berkshire area?
