Intermarriages

My 4g grandfather is also my 5g grandfather depending on which line I look at. I don't have a DNA test for this family but I was wondering if anyone has anything similar and if it affects the matches and how?

Oh yes, I do! On my Jewish line, my 2xg-grandparents were first cousins, so it means that the matches on that side are estimated to be more closely related to me than they would be if you figured it out from just one line. I was just looking at one who is near the top of the 3rd to 4th cousins but is actually fourth cousin in one way and fifth in another way.

Thanks. Just something for me to think about down the track.
