What would C S N S W mean??

I just found a marriage in the LMA records & it says her father's name, Henry James Gazeley, then under occupation it has the initials "C. S. N. S. W."

I am thinking New South Wales maybe? But what would the C S stand for ? Convict ship?

If it's that 1894 one, then it's a bit late for convict ships, isn't it?

Could it be Chartered Surveyor?

He's a signalman in 1881, so is it something to do with railways?

Merry 18-09-09 19:15

I can't find him or his wife in 1891, but in 1901 Sarah Gazeley is living with hewr dau and son-iin-law (Banyard) and says she is married, but I can't find him anywhere yet. Maybe they went to Oz, but it didn't agree with sarah and she came back. She is still here in 1911.

How weird!

I notice he is Henry James on Constance's marriage cert, but James when living with Sarah. Maybe one of the Australian members could check to see if he was in Oz for me later when they're on here.

This is them in 1891 well Sarah & Constance anyway :

Joan of Archives 18-09-09 19:42

Oooo Merry where did you find that?

HarrysMum 18-09-09 19:44
