Freemason Membership Registers - ancestry

England United Grand Lodge Freemason Membership Registers 1751-1921
Ireland Grand Lodge Freemason Membership Registers 1733-1923

I wish the "new and updated databases" page on ancestry still showed the total number of records in each database. Without that, it's hard to tell what is a major addition. But I'm excited about this because some of my ancestors are supposed to have been Freemasons. Not figured out whether England includes Wales or not yet. If anyone figures it out before I do, please post the answer on here!

Looking at my search results so far, it seems that England includes India and Africa! Not got time to look at it properly now as I have to go and eat, but will definitely be having a good search through later.

Oh, I'm interested in this too, my great grandfather was a Grand Lodge Master (I think!) but maybe too late for this set of records.

Thanks for this, Kate.

Thanks, Kate! I have already found 6 of my family (Purkis and Quintrell). It doesn't include my grandfather as it finishes too early for him.

I've just seen Aberystwyth in the search results, so it looks as though Wales is included.

Found one great-grandfather, but not another one who was also rumoured to have been a member.

Goodness, my Mum's family was crawling with Freemasons.
Grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and lots of cousins/uncles.

It turns out my 2x-grandfather on that side was a mason, so maybe the family story got a little bit muddled. It certainly does seem to be a big collection of records.

And now I've found a 2xg-uncle was a mason in India!

I found my grandfather, which was no surprise, but I also found another distant relative who was excluded from his lodge!

I've found a website that explains the possible reasons for exclusion. I should love to known which one applies to him.
