Jill, I keep looking at this and wonder if he moved 10 miles to Cocking.

For the record there is this will:
First name(s) Richard
Last name Leggatt
Entry year 1759
Place Cocking
Original text Cocking, Sussex
Court Chichester Consistory
County Sussex
Country England
Document type Registered will
Archive reference STC I/40/193
Record set Sussex, Chichester Consistory Court Wills index, 1482-1800
Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records
Record collection Wills & probate
Collections from Great Britain

I found this burial:
Name: Richard Leggatt
Gender: Male
Burial Date: 27 Jan 1760
Burial Place: Cocking, Sussex, England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I03189-8
System Origin: England-EASy
GS Film number: 1040976
Reference ID: item 4

The year could be 1759/60.

I know it's a long shot but if there is no burial at Sutton it is worth looking at this.

That's interesting Elizabeth, I'm a member of SFHG but that burial doesn't show up on their data, (Sutton isn't fully transcribed either) so I feel a research trip coming on - it won't be until the Easter holidays though.
