London Metropolitan Archives

I've discovered that the LMA hold a copy of the 1792 Duke of Argyll census of Kintyre. Do I have to order the book in advance or can I simply call in?

Unless it is held offsite - and I don't know of any their records that are - you can just drop in.

Check their website for the proofs of identity you will need. They have their own type of reader's ticket, which doubles as a photocopy card.

If you pay up and sign your life away, you can take photos.

Thanks, Phoenix - appreciate the tips.

I've got tickets for the Pompeii exhibition at the British Museum tomorrow evening, so was going make good use of my trip to pop in to the MLA to check the 1792 Kintyre census. Have found out the MLA is shut on Friday, though. Humph. Maybe next time...

Always the way! I'm still trying to work out what I wanted best mate to look up for me in West Sussex RO. I'll remember once she gets back!
