1891 they were originally transcribed as Leaarara on ancestry but someone has kindly corrected it! To be fair, the enumerator was one of those annoying people whose d's looked almost exactly like a's!
(D'oh, just realised your ditto was for Kintbury, not for unknown! Off to look at 1841 now...)

Rosie Knees 30-01-10 12:42

I think it may have been me who corrected that, I do recognise that mistrans.

It's 41 I can't find her Kate.

Unfortunately, trying to trawl Kintbury is impossible as a lot of it has faded very badly and can't be read.

I'll see if Ancestry picks up Alice (bc1814)

kiterunner 30-01-10 12:45

I had no luck, sorry.

Rosie Knees 30-01-10 12:49

thanks for looking Kate

There was an Ellen Liddiard of about the correct age in 1841, but again it was very difficult to read, Rosie.

Isn't it Ellen Cleeter or Cleator we need in 1841?

ElizabethHerts 30-01-10 14:37

:oYes, I know, but as she married a Liddiard I was sort of investigating all possibilities - perhaps they took her in??

Sue from Southend 30-01-10 14:55

I think I may have found her in 1841 - will send you a pm!

I have a copy of the Berkshire Overseers Papers on CD from Berks FHS and found this -

Date 6 Feb 1830 Examination of Alice CLEATER (x) of Kintbury before JP C Dundas that she is with child and that John RUMBLE, gardener, of Kintbury is the reputed father.
