There's a Daniel Joseph married to a Jane living in Merthyr in 1851, and a John Hanrahan married to an Ann. Not worked out which David Roderick it is yet, though.

There's a possible for Sarah in Cadoxton in 1841, address Onlion (would that be the same place as Onlwyn where Gwilym and Sarah are in 1851?):
Jonah(?) David 35 Shoem N
Gwenllian Do 35 N
Sarah Do 10 N
Gwenllian Do 5 N
John Do 1 Y

Thanks Kite - I imagine Onlion is the same as Onllym (or any of the various other ways I've seen it spelled. I'll order the marriage cert - if that is them then Sarah would have been five or six months pregnant at the time of the marriage, which sounds about usual for my lot :d

Do you think they would have got married in Merthyr Tydfil district if they both lived in Cadoxton, though? Maybe we should just check for any other possible marriages before you order it.

I don't know exactly where the boundaries of the reg districts are, but Sarah was born in Cray, which is nearer to MT than to Neath, so maybe they married there and moved to Cadoxton after the marriage?

Could be, if that isn't her in 1841. I was going to look for that 1841 family in 1851 next...

Can't see them in 1851, but if I've found the right Onllwyn on the map, it's not that far from Merthyr anyway. I thought it would be very near to Neath.

I'm guessing it's the one a couple of miles east of Ystradgynlais, which is about the same distance from Neath and Merthyr.

If that 1841 family does turn out to be the right one, there is a non-conformist baptism for Sarah Davies, 20 Sep 1830, at Savon Independent, Llywel, Breconshire, parents Jonah Davies and Gwenllian, date of birth 15 Sep 1830.

And a tip you may need if this is the right family - when searching for the name Jonah, try Josiah too because it is a very common mistranscription.

There's some info on the Onllwyn that was in the parish of Cadoxton on GENUKI, not sure if it helps confirm whether we're looking at the right one:

Yes, I think it is that one, so hopefully that Merthyr Tydfil marriage will turn out to be the right one.

Sarah's daughter Gwenllian sometimes gave Onllwym as her birthplace on later censuses and sometimes Cadoxton, which suggests that either the two were close together or one was part of the other. Thanks for the Jonah/Josiah tip - I haven't come across either name in my tree before so I wouldn't have known about it.

Certificate ordered - now I'll just have to wait and see what it shows :)
