My maternal grandmother turned out to be my step-grandmother.

My grandfather, James Arthur Bennett, married her in 1933, less than a year after his first wife died. The narriage was probably in Swindon, Wiltshire.

She was a kind grandmother, always had a sweet in her handbag for young Michael.

But I know nothing about her at all. All I know is that my grandfather called her Lil.

If anyone has access to marriage records maybe I could learn more.

Mike do you remember when and where she died and what sort of age she might have been?

Do you know if she was likely to have been a spinster/widow/divorcee when she married?

She died in 1975 or 1976 in Bolton or Farnworth, Lancs. She was a spinster when she married my grandfather. I think she may have been older than him, he was born in 1894 in Crewe.

I have a pic of the wedding, the littlest girl is my Mum.

There are a couple of possible deaths on Ancestry.

You really need to buy the marriage cert to get her age.

It's probably the first one. Farnworth district was transferred to Greater Manchester in 1974. Before that it was Farnworth and there are no deaths in Farnworth pre 1974.
