I came across a medal today, which was in box of things my relative was going to throw away! - so I saved it from its fate!

Around the edge of it are the words "Union Internationale de Protection de L'Enfance Geneve", which seems to be the Save the Children Fund.

In the middle of the medal there is a figure of a person wearing only what looks like a very long skirt, and holding a banner with the words, so far as I can tell, "Savate Parvulos" - does anyone know what that could mean please  - I have been Googling and only come up with sites about kick-boxing!! :d

Also, on the back of the medal are the initials FH, and FD - does anyone have any idea about those please? - If the recipient of the medal is who I think it was, then they are not that person's initials!

It would be nice if it said "Sinite parvulos" cos that means "Suffer the little children". Perhaps Savate parvulos means "Save the children".

Thanks OC - it's definitely "Savate Parvulos" - your suggestion makes sense :)

FH appears to be Food for the Hungry:

Couldn't find the FD. :(

Ooh thank you Janet - that's interesting :)

I've been looking for a picture of it but can't find one - will attempt to photograph and scan it later

*bows to OC...again*

I think you're right and Savate parvulos means save the children (literally, save the little ones - that would make sense.

However, when I googled it, I only found...thids thread!

Salvate parvulos in Latin means save the little ones or save the children.

Thanks An & Mary :)

Have googled and googled for the medal and can't find anything remotely similar.

Having eventually found the right cable, am charging up the camera, and hope to post a photo of it eventually, in case anyone knows what it might be

I think I have managed to get a photo! :)

Does anyone have any more ideas about this medal please? What it was, and what the year might possibly have been? Now it's bigger, I see it says "Salvate" and not "Savate", as Mary suggested

I would try e-mailing the image to Save the Children and see if they can tell you anything about it.

Thanks Mary - I will do that - it seems to be the International Union for Child Welfare which merged with the SCF in 1946 -
