Hi ya

I am doing a tree for a family friend and seem to have got a bit stuck.
This is what I have so far

In 1851 ( HO107; Piece: 1973; Folio: 924; Page: 36) William Henry Mason b.1844 (+/-1) is living with his mother Mary (b.1821) (Widow) and sister Isabel b.1838 Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

William Henry Mason married Elizabeth McLacklin 11 June 1871 Notting hill, Kensington - Williams father listed as Arthur Mason Gentleman

Isabel marries Daniel Hanson in 1863 in Notting Hill - Isabels father is listed as Dymock Mason, Deceased.

I cannot find them in 1841

Any ideas?

Which facts fit your friend's family? (ie are you certain of one marriage?)

Isabella Mason is in her place of birth in 1841 (Cowley, not Cheltenham) but the only adult in the house is John Mason, ag lab.

Hi Merry

I am sure that both marriages are correct. William Henry Mason is living with his sister and her husband Daniel in 1871, and in 1881 Williams son Edward is living with Isabel and Daniel

I did see that entry in 1841, and there is a domestic called Mary. So I did speculate that Isabel and William might have different mother. But it also confuses things with John, not an Arthur or a Dymock

There are no deaths in Cheltenham district for Arthur or Dym*, but there are birth registrations for both children, without any middle names! I am wondering if they were illegitimate and John Mason is an uncle or whatever, There is a Mary Mason, right age, in Cheltenham who is a cook in a household, so probably unmarried.

Looks like i'm gonna have to order Williams birth certificate and see what it says

Thanks Merry x

There doesn't seem to have been a Dymock Mason anywhere, at least there is nothing on FreeBMD and all there is on FamilySearch or ancestry is Isabella's marriage.

The Mary Mason who is a cook in Cheltenham in 1841 is 25 (i.e. 25 to 29) and I think Mary Mason's age in 1851 is 38, not 30, but it's hard to be sure with that line through the middle. So there is a possible baptism on FamilySearch - Mary Mason baptised 15 Jul 1810 Cowley, Gloucestershire, parents Richard and Sarah.

The Mason household at Cowley in 1841 with John Mason 34 and Isabella 3 also has a Sarah Mason 70, who could be Mary's mother. The previous household is headed by Henery Mason 30. There are baptisms at Cowley of a John Mason 2 Sep 1804 and Henry Mason 28 Dec 1806, also with parents Richard and Sarah. There are quite a few other children of those parents but none of them is called Arthur or Dymock, so it looks likely that Mary was Richard and Sarah's unmarried daughter, don't you think?

I had wondered if their father was called Arthur Dymock, but sadly there doesn't seem to be anyone of that name in the area!

Could be that one child's father was called Arthur and the other one's father was called Dymock. Just not Mason!
