Name - "official" name and what they were known as

Job Smith

Date and place of birth

1st June 1796 at Witney, Oxfordshire. Apparently there was a flood in Witney (river Windrush) the day after Job's birth and he and his mother had to escape their house by boat via a upstairs window. I have never been able to prove or disprove this 'fact' which was told by Job's youngest daughter. I think it seems fairly unlikely, but would love to be proved wrong!

Names of parents

Thomas Smith, hatter, and Hannah née Thackwell

Date and place of baptism - if applicable

None as parents were Quakers.

Details of each of his or her marriages - if any

Firstly, on 10th Dec 1819 at Banbury Meeting House, Banbury, Oxfordshire to my 3xg-grandmother, Mary Tyler.

Secondly, on 9th Sept 1847 at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Newport, Isle of Wight to Maria Anne Fisher.

Occupation(s) - if any

At various times, farmer, grocer and tea dealer.

Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on (if s/he lived in census times!).

Until after 1841 and before 1846 in Witney, Oxfordshire
After that, at Newport, Isle of Wight until 1854. This is from the memoirs of his youngest dau:

My parents came to the US at a cost of £26 in 1854. The family left Portsmouth on 3rd July 1854, then sailed from Plymouth about 11am on 4th July 1854. They docked at Montreal, Quebec, 1000 Islands, Toronto and Cleveland. They first lived in Harveysburg, Warren County, Ohio in 1854. In about 1860 they moved to a farm in Sherman township, Sheboygan County, WI. Job also lived in Abbotsford in Clark or Marathon County, WI. It is sometimes known as Abbot.

I have his UK 1841 and 1851 and US 1860 and 1870 census records

Date, place and cause of death

One UK grandson believed Job died in 1875 and another US descendant thinks his death may have been at Nashua, Iowa. I don't think anyone has tried to find a record
