View Full Version : Finding out if people are still alive?

Other than electoral rolls, are there any ways of establishing if someone is still alive, or alternatively that they have died in the last few years?

I have a relative who would be in her late 80s now and who appears on 192.com's free search up until 2006 - although I also have good reason to believe she was still living in December 2007.

This is going to sound really daft Asa, but have you tried googling her name/address etc?

I did this the other day and just happened to hit on the local paper's obituary pages.

Thanks OC, I haven't tried that in a long time so will have a go - doesn't sound daft :-)

I'd forgotten that if you're looking for a common name in Penzance you seem to get nothing but items related to the musical!

Tut, why didn't you SAY Penzance, I have an organised group of spies there! PM me with a name and I shall see what I can find.

Asa, I believe LMA holds the bmd fiche. These are updated every three months, so you can check for recent deaths relatively simply there.

Thanks very much Phoenix - I really didn't know that and have been going there for years!

Thank you OC - I will pm you

There are BMD indexes at these locations up to end 2010
Manchester City Library
Birmingham Central Library
Bridgend Reference and Information Library
Plymouth Central Library
City of Westminster Archives Centre
London Metropolitan Archives
The British Library*

If it is an area covered by local bmd they are usually quite good.

Thanks very much Margaret and Anne - OC is going to see what she can find for me and I'll take it from there :-)
