According to FreeBMD, Saltney is in the Great Boughton Registration district.

The only birth I could find is this:

Name: LLOYD, Sarah Jane
Registration District: Great Boughton
County: Cheshire
Year of Registration: 1853
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's Maiden Name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume No: 8A

I will look at the censuses to see if this can be verified or discarded.

Saltney is technically in Flintshire.

I have found this for the 1861 census:

1861 Census
LLOYD, Sarah
GREAT BOUGHTON, Cheshire
RG09 piece 2625 folio 58 page 41

LLOYD, Joseph Head Married M 34 1827 Ag Lab Pirton Cheshire
LLOYD, Mary Wife Married F 37 1824 Shropshire Elsoner
LLOYD, Sarah Daughter F 8 1853 Scholar Chester Cheshire
LLOYD, Elizabeth Daughter F 5 1856 Scholar Chester Cheshire
LLOYD, Frances Daughter F 0 (8M) 1861 Chester Cheshire
DAVIES, Catherine Lodger Unmarried F 24 1837 Dressmaker Minran

Saltney is just outside Chester.

If this is correct, her parents are Joseph and Mary.

Do you have the marriage certificate for Sarah Jane and Alfred Brentnall? That would confirm who Sarah Jane's father was.

I know we're always saying this, but you would be best to get a copy of her marriage certificate to see who her father was. It would be easy to go wrong with a name like Lloyd.

I can't see the marriage just now, though...

Thankyou, all I know 100% that her and her Husband Alfred Brentnall are both buried in Bagillt, As is one of their children Mary Barnett Brentnall (she also had the surnames Gordon and Carr, they were the surnames of her husband's)

I think my Mum's brother would have it, but not convinced he would give me.
So I guess I'll have to get this copy too. but I appreciate the help you have given me. trying to research family ancestry very little to go on is very hard.

There is some info on here which may or may not be correct:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/a/w/Michael-Morris-Lawton/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0048.html

It looks very likely that the person who put that information up does have a copy of the marriage certificate as they give the exact date, occupation, residence etc. If you click on the "Home Page" button on that site, it will take you to a page which gives the tree owner's email address, so you could contact him and exchange info - if the email address isn't out of date!

I got the wrong family then, if Sarah Jane's dad was Charles. :o

It shows that you should always buy the certificate!

When Looking at the link Kiterunner gave me, It had quite a few Brentnall's on it, found the name of my grandmother Madge and her Sister Doris on it (Sarah & Alfred's Grandaughters). What I am confused by, he has The name of their parents as "Carr & Polly Brentnall) as far I knew their Parents were called Willian Thomas Carr & Mary Barnett Carr.

Zoe, you need to verify this research yourself. I saw one or two things which made me wonder about accuracy.

You have to bite the bullet and work backwards, very methodically.

He is probably a relation or has access to family information. Marys were quite often known as Polly, but they are unlikely to be shown as that on any formal document.

I am hoping to get a reply from the e.mail I sent him, along with all the info that you have all found for me. it's very much appreciated.

If the website is correct, Mary's first husband's surname was Gordon.

This is a Gordon/Carr marriage:

Name: GORDON, Mary B
Registration District: Help Birkenhead
County: Cheshire
Year of Registration: 1913
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Spouse's last name: Carr
Volume No: Help 8A
Page No: Help 841

Name: CARR, William
Registration District: Birkenhead
County: Cheshire
Year of Registration: 1913
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Spouse's last name: Gordon

ElizabethHerts

Name: CARR, Doris
Registration District: Holywell

Polly can be a nickname for Mary.
