Gabrielle Eva Hill b 1867 Ealing daughter of Alfred and Annie AA Hill married Rev Frederick John Gibbings in Hampstead 1910. She is listed in FreeBMD as both Hill and Sawyer. She was divorced by Frederick John Gibbings in 1919 because he did not know she was previously divorced and because she would not join him in Australia. Given the marriage was registered with both her surnames, I assume he thought she was widowed.
She married for a third time, Russell Paddon in 1920. That gives her maiden name as Hill and also divorced wife of FJ Gibbings. FJG married again for the 4th time in Australia, but we won't go there. :) I have all his wives except this one sorted!

So who was Mr Sawyer and when did she marry him? Between 1912 and 1919 she does make a few trips to New York as Gabrielle Gibbings, so I am wondering if perhaps he was American, although I can't find her sailing as either Hill or Sawyer before that.

She appears as Hill on the 1871 and 1881 census, then I can't find her after that.

Just going through my family Bilble, Frederick John Gibbings , is my great uncle, he went off to Sydney and married for a fourth time , died in 1958 in Sydney. I have a few clues about her , but would be very interested in her history.

Hi Christopher and welcome to the site!

I will have to go back through my notes and see what I have on this family, I am not related but am involved in researching C of E clergy serving in Australia and New Zealand.

I will check tonight and post what I have, but it will likely be more about him than her, although reading what I have written here, I have done a bit of work on her.
