I had not been able to find my gt gt grandparents in 1901 but found their 1906 deaths in the Greenwich Union Infirmary last night.

The usual address for my gt gt grandmother, Ellen Bell, was 88 Pagnell Street, St Paul's, Deptford. An address search on FMP shows only odd numbers for that street and Ancestry has districts 1,3,4 and 5 but no 2.

Is there somewhere I can look for a list of known missing/destroyed census?

Yes, findmypast has info about what is missing:

It doesn't mention any of Deptford being missing, though. But I don't think they tend to list the odd missing page.

Thanks Kite. I knew I had seen reference to a list somewhere!

Oh well, it's good to have found their deaths at least - I had previously been looking for likely registrations from 1891 to 1901 but fortunately Bell was too common a name to have narrowed it down sufficiently to send for any certs.

Can you do a search of the 1901 census on GR or familyrelatives.com, just to see if the name pops up?

GR takes their census info from findmypast, doesn't it? And FamilyRelatives doesn't have any censuses. But there is always the official 1901 census site.

The official 1901 site only has odd numbers, plus 1-10 Sussex Terrace, Pagnell St.

Thanks for the suggestions Uncle John.

It looks as if District 2 must have been lost or damaged beyond legibility then Kite. I've looked for so many of mine in the Deptford area in 1901 that I'm surprised I hadn't spotted that gap before.

Is this Ellen in 1891?

1891 Census
BELL, Ellen
GREENWICH, London
RG12 piece 499 folio 14 page 22
Address: 114, Woodpecker Road, St Paul Deptford

With husband Stephen, sons Stephen and James

I can't work out what you mean about District 2 being missing, sorry, but looking at the 1902 London Post Office Directory that is on ancestry, it only lists (a few) odd numbers for Pagnell St (listed as Pagnell st. Walpole st. New Cross rd. (SE) (DEPTFORD).

That's the one Elizabeth - except I have the address as 114 Edward Street?

Stephen's pob alternates over the years between Birmingham and East Harnham/Salisbury Wilts!

Son Stephen was in the army by 1901 and James was also a soldier by the time of his 1912 marriage although I haven't identified him in 1901 yet.

Sadly, Stephen and Ellen lost their first son in Scotland in 1863 when he was two and then lost an 11 year old son and 5 and 3 year old daughters in Sheerness in 1874, buried within two weeks of each other.

Kite - as Ancestry listed Districts 1, 3, 4 and 5, I presumed there must also, at the time, have been a District 2.

I'll do some googling to see when Pagnell St was built. There is no guarantee the Bells were at No. 88 by 1901 so possibly the evenly numbered side of the street was still under construction then.

Oh, you mean St Paul Deptford! I looked at Deptford St Paul  and it had Deptford Central, districts 1,2, and 5-24, Deptford North, districts 6 - 16, and Deptford South, districts 1 - 21.

Sometimes when an enumeration district seems to be missing on ancestry it has just been put in a funny place; don't know whether that is the case here.

:o Sorry, I did say Deptford St Paul in my opening didn't I. And now I'm so confused I can't even remember why I settled on St Paul Deptford for Pagnell Street.

I'll do some more digging around.
