What would i get from an abstract of a will in 1809 please,

There is an abstract on TNA for Adam Smedley, miner.. proved in the Court of Lichfield April 19 1809, 2 pages.

Is this worth getting or would i be better off trying to find the will.

Any help appreciated

Staffordshire & Trent Archive service looks like the best place to start.

If you can afford it, it is worth having both.

The TNA abstract has the benefit of telling you what relation the beneficiaries are to the deceased. The will itself will probably provide more details of assets, people who get nothing etc. Plus when it was written, who witnessed it etc etc

Thank you Phoenix, i should have said he was from Bonsall Derbyshire, so would that be the same place to get the will.

I am going to download the abstract and get the will later, can`t afford both at the moment.

Well i downloaded it, his son Adam was Executor and his 2 daughters Hannah and Alice got 60 pound each, eldest son John (oh`s line) is not mentioned.

BUT... page 2 gives me the 2 daughters married names, looks like Alice may have married into my Grattons.

*off to find marriages*
